Courbe: A Unique Metal Bending Technique Creates a Stunning Vase

Breaking Through Traditional Limitations in Metal Bending

The Courbe vase, designed by Eason Yang, Bryan Leung, and Amanda Lin, is a testament to the innovative possibilities of metal bending technology. Inspired by the traditional sheet metal bending process, the designers sought to push the boundaries of this technique, exploring new shapes and materials to create a truly unique form. By experimenting with tubular metal and employing a groundbreaking processing method, they have created a stunning vase that doubles as a diffuser bottle.

Traditionally, metal bending techniques were limited to sheet metal. However, the team behind Courbe has broken through these limitations by designing different shapes of molds and combining existing bending processing tools. This innovative approach allows them to bend tubular metal, opening up a whole new dimension in metal bending technology.

One of the key features of Courbe is its ability to bend and clamp two tubular metal pipes simultaneously, without the need for any welding technology. This groundbreaking method results in a beautiful curvy shape, with one pipe nested within another. The resulting form is not only visually striking but also functional, serving as both a flower vase and a diffuser bottle.

The realization of the Courbe design was no easy feat. The design and manufacturing team spent over 1,200 hours experimenting and refining the production process. The thickness and strength of different metal pipes introduced numerous variables in the clamping method, requiring meticulous attention to detail.

The Courbe vase is crafted from 304 stainless steel and features a titanium plating surface treatment using PVD technology. It is available in three sizes: large (3kg), medium (1kg), and small (350g). The dimensions of the vase range from a diameter of 90mm and a height of 400mm for the large size, to a diameter of 40mm and a height of 125mm for the small size.

With its elegant curves and unique construction, Courbe stands as a testament to the power of innovative design and the possibilities of metal bending technology. Whether used as a standalone art piece or as a diffuser bottle with the addition of essential oils and diffused branches, Courbe adds a touch of sophistication to any space.

The Courbe vase made its first public appearance at the Dubai Design Week in 2019 and was officially launched in December 2020. It has since garnered recognition, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life.
